Recently, I had the pleasure of a newborn session with 11 day new baby Reese. He was an amazing sleeper for me, super settled and content. Reese's mummy was very helpful with keeping him satisfied throughout our session.
I purchased a few new props that I wanted to try with Reese. This one is a large tin tub. Reese was born a healthy size at almost 9lbs, and at 11 days new he was less moldable than a smaller newborn baby within the recommended 10 day time frame. This only didn't happen within this time due to Cyclone Debbie making it difficult for me to travel and not pleasant for photos.
This only means that while I didn't want to make Reese uncomfortable in any really tight curled up positions, we simply alter our poses a little to come up with something unique for him.
With Easter being close, my sister and I created a paper mache egg especially for this shoot. It's not generally something I do during sessions, as I prefer simplicity and emotive captures with natural light and few props, however it was really exciting to see how comfortable baby Reese was in there. We didn't want to disturb him when the session had finished, he looked so content!
It was quite challenging outside, as it was very harsh light and I had only planned on shooting indoors with the filtered light from the windows.
I had to shoot with the light behind, so it didn't upset Reese. The final images are unique, as I was able to capture some sneaky little smiles that shows how happy and safe he felt in there.
"It was like he is back in the womb!" Reese's mummy.
As much as I absolutely loved getting cuddles with this precious boy - it is my favourite part - when I returned home to edit the images, I have to say that staring at this on the computer is not all bad either! lol Too Cute.
I had a fabulous time with this family, and felt very special to be able to capture this moment in time to remember forever. Smiles, Bec. xo
