You are getting ready to have your baby - setting up your nursery - making sure you have your hospital bag ready, and the quickest route to the hospital nailed.
Think about booking a photographer NOW!
Book in your newborn session while you're pregnant with your expected due date. Those cute curly newborn images are easiest to create within 10 days of birth, and booking early will ensure your photographer is not going to be booked out in those early days. And who knows you may even be able to score a Maternity session packaged deal - Í know I offer that. ;)
Next year, my studio will be completed and an option for sessions (I'll keep you posted). At the moment though, I do all sessions in the family home. This is a good option for many anyway, as tired mums don't need to travel, and all bub needs is conveniently located. I generally like to do a consult prior to the session. This allows me to decide on the best light and time of day for the session and to meet with mum, and in some cases dad too, to discuss what ideas they have and what they want from their images. This consult can be worked in with the previously mentioned optional maternity shoot.
On the day of the session, I will turn up, set up in the optimal position, wash up and get to know bub with lots of cuddles. (Yep I know - horrible, horrible job hahahahaha). Depending on how settled bub is at that time will decide on my flow of clothed shots, nudie shots, wrapped, with parents if requested etc.
It's good to have a nice warm room to assist in keeping bub settled and comfortable, especially when the clothes come off. And please don't be concerned with little mishaps - they are expected and well catered for.
If at anytime during the session bub becomes unsettled or is due for a feed. We take our time, give bub what they need to become settled again, and absolutely no rush. I only ever book 1 session per day (generally a 4 hour block) so we do not need to rush, and it can be an enjoyable, fun process. It should be an experience as well, not jus a task for the final results.
** This below image, created some very memorable giggles that were captured forever.
Once we have completed all shots for the session, I will advise a rough time for final images to be handed over, depending on workload at that time, usually 1-2weeks, and we are done.
If for any reason, we cannot complete the session the way we wanted, due to a restless baby or even if mum is unwell it can be rescheduled for a later date, hopefully within that 10day time frame.
Please note, I am fully vaccinated for whooping cough. And all safety measures will be taken when handling your precious baby. I am a mother of 3 and have had my fair share of experience.
