Safety First.... even before coffee!

Please, please, please do your research. Newborn Photography is by far the most fragile session in the photography world. (And the most rewarding in my opinion.) Another person is handling your brand new baby! The photographer needs to be able to put your mind at ease that your baby is in safe, gentle, caring hands.

You should learn how certain images, like the above, are created safely. This gorgeous little bub is laying on his side on a black backdrop with dads hands placed carefully to give the impression of being help up, without actually having to jeopardise bubs safety.

In fact many of the newborn images you see are what we call composite images. That means there are two or more images blended together in editing to create a creative piece of art. This is done to either remove arms or hands etc that may be supporting bub or to include extras, like small (unpredictable) siblings, pets or place bub on a swing or similar.

While many photographers don't wish to give away their secrets, I believe it's super important that you are very aware and should be entitled to choose a competent photographer to capture your precious ones first moments in life. Trust me they grow oh so quickly.

I take the safety of the session extremely seriously. It is my number one priority. If for any reason bub does not want to get into a certain position and it may be uncomfortable I will not force it or try attempt it. There are many other options that we can move to that will achieve some beautiful images.

I do include mums and dads heavily throughout Newborn sessions, so that there is always a hand to support close by, and bub will never be left unattended. Baby will never be on or in a prop that isn't secure or may break.

I'm not a big prop user, I do prefer the more natural baby sleeping poses that are just too cute, and feel those shots are often the best of the bunch. No image is worth risking safety.

If you have any further questions on how my newborn sessions flow, please contact me via any medium you choose and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have, to ensure you choose wisely for you and your family.

Until next time.

Smiles, Bec. :)
